There are about a million ways to see the New York City skyline. Rooftop bars. The Staten Island Ferry. That one spot on the Brooklyn Promenade where everyone stops to take the same photo.
But there’s one view that almost nobody gets: Manhattan from 2,000 feet up, at night, with nothing between you and the city but open air.
Most helicopter tour companies in New York shut down when the sun goes down. FlyNYON doesn’t. We’re the only operator in NYC running night helicopter flights — and once you see why, it makes sense that we kept going after dark.
That’s not a sales pitch. It’s just true.
During the day, Manhattan is dense. Buildings blend into buildings. The skyline is impressive, sure, but it can be hard to pick individual landmarks out of the wall of glass and steel.
At night, the whole thing separates. The Empire State Building stands alone in color. One World Trade Center glows white against the Hudson. The Brooklyn Bridge outlines itself in light, and you can trace every cable. Times Square pulses in a way that looks almost unreal from above — this hot rectangle of neon in the middle of a dark grid.
Central Park becomes a black rectangle you can actually see the shape of. The FDR lights trace the east side of the island like a vein. The bridges — Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg — line up and glow in sequence.
You notice things at night you’d never catch during the day. That’s the part that surprises people.
Every other helicopter tour operator in the New York area — HeliNY, Zip Aviation, Manhattan Helicopters — flies daytime only. That’s industry standard.
FlyNYON runs evening and night departures because we fly from Kearny, NJ, where we have the operational flexibility to schedule flights outside of peak daytime windows. Our pilots are trained for night operations, and our routes over Manhattan are specifically designed for after-dark conditions.
So when you book a night helicopter ride over NYC, you’re getting something that literally doesn’t exist anywhere else.
The flight itself follows the same Manhattan route as our daytime tours. You’ll fly over the Statue of Liberty, the Financial District, both bridges, Central Park, and Midtown. The difference is everything you’re looking at.
A few things worth knowing:
We get a lot of anniversary and birthday bookings for night flights. It makes sense — there’s something about being above a lit-up city at night that feels like an event, not just a tour.
Proposals happen on these flights more often than you’d expect. We’ve never seen one go badly.
We also run special flights for holidays — New Year’s Eve over Times Square, Fourth of July fireworks from above. Those book out weeks in advance, so keep an eye on our schedule if that’s your thing.
Head to our New York booking page, pick your flight type (doors-off or doors-on), and select a date. You’ll see evening time slots in the schedule — those are the night flights. Pick one, pick your seats, and you’re set.
Flights depart from our helipad in Kearny, NJ. It’s about 15 minutes from Midtown Manhattan by car, and we have free parking on site.
